Interferences with two videos on top
on Jan 14, 2015 at 9:30:52 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to video editing and I do it just for fun. I've done a few videos, quite simple but I like the final result :D

But I've come to a problem where the final rendering and even the preview looks really bad.
I have two videos recorded from a videogame, both full screen, one on top of each other. I created a mask for the top one so only the upper left corner is visible, the second video is visible in the rest of the screen. As an idea it works, but when it plays in the preview, it shows some kind of interferences, red or green flashes, as if the mask was not working properly or something.

I have searched a lot before deciding to post, but found nothing useful, and I don't know how to solve it, or even if it has a solution. Running Vegas 10.0, by the way...

The final rendering looks the same. You can see this problem here:

This is a previous video where I began to notice this problem, now I was working on another similar and I think it looks worse...

Thanks in advance.

What codec does the source video files use? If it's FRAPS or XviD/DivX that's your problem.

I don't know how this works then, because if I leave only one of the videos, those flash things don't appear. I've put other type of media (mostly images) over videos recorded the same way, also used masks and they didn't appear... The codec it uses really matters in this case?

The source video files where captured with Action! but I can't remember the codec they use and I can't look for it right now so I'll post it later.

Thanks for the reply.

Perhaps it's not the codec. I just know that some game capture codes have problems with rendering with Vegas.

The codec is FICV, can this be solved then? Should I check anything else?

One way to test is to take one of the FICV files and convert it to MJPEG or Logarith with a tool like AviDemux 2.5. Then replace the FICV file in your project with the converted one and see if it renders properly. If it does, that was your problem.
