Using the latest Movie studio and editing old home video. what formats and templates would be best. Most of the video is mini dv (Canon ZR camera) and from a panasonic HD video camera. The video will only be played over my home network on the computer or on our 40 inch HD TV

I would use the MainConcept AVC encoder with one of the "Internet..." templates (either 720p or 1080p). These should give good quality and play nicely on a home network.

My goal for these videos is to get an edited version that I would archive and then delete the orig videos. I would have three copies archived.
I have a lot of 720:480 video also as well as 8mm tape and mini DV as well as the new Panasonic HD Camera. Would you use the same two templates for all of it?

No. I thought you were talking about delivery formats not archive formats. I always archive the original footage. Its the best quality you'll ever have.
