Better tool than "Brightness and Contrast?"

A few pages back, Edward Troxel mentioned there is a way to brighten/contrast without affecting every pixel of the entire clip.

Could someone point me in that direction?

You should be using Color Curves instead of the primitive Brightness and Contrast tool. It gives you lots more control. You can use a Mask to only affect part the frame with an effect. You can also use the Secondary Color Corrector to only affect certain colors in a frame.

Thank you John. I have fiddled with those tools, but without much success. I'll check for a tutorial on this site.

For Color Curves you want to start by making an 'S' and adjusting from there. You can double-click on the curve to create another point and really target what is affected but I fond that most of the time, a simple 'S' is all that's needed.

There are lots of great tutorials here on the COW for some of the others.
