The short answer is "no". If the mix is stereo and the voice track is centred, you could try one of the many "vocal remover" programs designed to create karaoke tracks, but it's unlikely to be successful.

An audio engineer friend of mine explains it like this.
You take your coffee with cream and sugar. Now try to separate it into the respective ingredients. It can't be done and neither can a mixed track be separated into it's respective elements. Sorry :-(

Actually, you might be able to extract the narrative using Sony SpectraLayers Pro. It can literally "unscramble" an audio omelet. As Mike said, we use to say you can't unbaked the eggs out of a cake but with SpectraLayers Pro you actually can. Pretty amazing software. You should at least download the trial and try it out and see what you can do.

[mark cusack] "Any advice as to how to do this?"

Hi,
Gary Rebholz is your man to answer questions about Spectral Layers.
Do a web search for"Gary Rebholz spectral layers", below the link to a training page.
You will have to wade through the information, watching and reading. This is a simple enough concept to grasp but the doing will take some practice.

I agree with Russ. Watch Gary's training. There is a definite learning curve and a lot of trial and error. If you need separate tracks for narration and music it's best to ask the person who gave it to you to supply you with two separate files but if you can't do that, SpectralLayers is your only hope.
