Problem with rendering to 1440p resolution
on Jun 2, 2014 at 5:26:59 pm

Greetings!

I am a YouTuber, and since I have the spare power, I thought I'd start producing content in 1440p instead of 1080p for quite a while, but I've been struggling with a little issue.

So my usual setup was just to render my 1080p videos using the Sony AVC/MVC codec, with the help of CUDA. That gave me quite a good performance, a 30 minute video at 30fps and with the bitrate of 26Mbps was rendered in approximately 65 minutes, which I was quite happy with.

So I wanted to up the resolution a bit and since there isn't any 2560x1440 preset, I just used the (Custom frame size) option. But it turns out when I do that, the CUDA GPU test goes from this to this and as soon as I try to start rendering, this little error pops up. It has been bugging me for quite a while and I've been trying to fix it by experimenting with different settings, but nothing I do seems to help. I don't really want to use other codecs, since this one is the fastest rendering one on my setup, rendering to Windows Media Video V11 or even Mainconcept AVC/AAC can take up even up to 4-5 times the length of the video on the same resolution and bitrate.

So I wanted to ask you guys, if anyone has any advice how to fix this annyoing error. It just doesn't want to let me go past the 1080p resolution.

Here are my render settings, I'm running on Vegas Pro 13.0 and using an Nvidia GeForce GTX680 for the CUDA.

Thanks,
Tomáš

Try using the MainConcept AVC encoder instead. It seems to work fine with 2560 × 1440 2K.

It does work just fine, yes, but it's not ideal for me. It just takes much longer to render even on lower resolutions and it uses the CPU heavily instead of the graphics card, so it slows the PC down during the render and it's difficult to do anything else while a video is rendering. This wouldn't really bother me normally, but I render too many long videos too ofter for this to be a viable option.

So there's no way to get a 1440p render through the Sony AVC codec? Why is that? Is that a limitation given in the codec's coding? It's a shame, since it performs wonderfully otherwise.

What graphics card do you have? MainConcept AVC is much faster than Sony AVC using my ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card so I'm really surprised it's slower for you. Did you open the template and select GPU? It defaults to CPU so if you didn't modify the template to use GPU this might be the problem.

Apparently not and you'd have to ask Sony why they don't support it.
