Low Pay: Tutorial on Colorization
on Mar 31, 2009 at 11:45:54 am

Hi,

I'm looking for someone to give me a demo on how to do b&w colorization. I prefer a video demo (easier for you and me), and it need not be too professional. Just for me to understand what's going on and what I need to do.

Thanks,
MO

Hey.

Do you mean you want to make footage you already have (or image) black and white, or you want to colourize black and white footage?

Hi David,

The best way in my opinion (And a video tutorial would be less than ten seconds long!) unless someone really wants to get into it.....

If your using AE, add a Hue Saturation effect, Tick the colourize box and then hange the saturation and hue....

If using PS, it can be found in the image>adjustments...

Good afternoon Mr. Peters,

While I agree in principle with what Mr. Smith has indicated in the other responses to your initial query, I must disagree that a video tutorial would definitely be excessively simple. However, it would be helpful to know the specifics of the project, including the following:
  • Software to be used
  • Desired look or result, with images if possible
  • Footage format
  • Footage samples, if possible
  • Type of sequence (one shot, several shots, complete edit, et cetera)
  • Project deadline (for shot treatment completion, not tutorial)
  • Additional post-processing to be done after colorization

  • There may be other items that would be helpful to know that I may have inadvertently omitted, so please divulge any details you can offer.

    Regards,
    -Chris

Is colorization what the big guys spend lots of time and money on to do right?

Is this what you want a quick tutorial on?

How about booking an appointment @ your local Pro Video Shop?
