how to modify an emitter to stop erasing itself.
on Dec 14, 2012 at 12:37:43 pm

I've been trying to put the emitter 'ornate trails sleeping beauty 2'
from the library emitter_11_10, directory ornacticum
into a video clip but I can't figure out how to stop it from
erasing itself. I tried making a new emitter with the don't erase
switch turned on in the project settings but it still erases itself.
There must be something that controls how long the emitter continues to display itself before it begins to erase but I haven't been
able to find it. Is there some documentation available someplace
that explains how to control emitters like this?

"Life" is what you want to increase.

[Alan Lorence] ""Life" is what you want to increase."

How very Zen!

I'll have to add "happiness", "contentment", and "peace" parameters to a future release. ;-)

I was able to make the emitter stay on longer by increasing
the life variable, but it also changed the shape and look of the
emitter. The bush got larger and the flowers shrink and
then they separated from the bush and float into space. Not
a desirable feature for a flower bush. I can make it work fairly well on short clips but on longer clips (1000 frames) it doesn't work right at all. I used the size variable and zoom to try to get the bush back to the size and shape I want but it doesn't look good. If I give it enough life it ends up with the flowers floating away from the bush. It would be nice to have a switch that would freeze the emitter or a time variable that would extend the time before it starts erasing. It looks great for about 5 seconds
then it starts erasing. I tried turning on the switch 'don't erase' in the project settings but it didn't help. I'm not sure what that switch is actually suppose to do. I tried to make a new particle with the 'don't erase' turned on but it didn't work.

Okay, I was hoping "life" would do it, but here's the more detailed explanation:

1) increase life

2) look at the "size over life" or "velocity over life" graphs for each of the particle types. If the bush gets too big, you'll probably need to adjust the "size over life" graph. If the flowers fly off into space, it's "velocity over life" that needs to be adjusted.

I'm thinking the easiest way to do this would be to use the "scale" function to scale the y-values of "life" by 200%. Then scale the X-values of the "over life" graphs by 50%. I'm hoping that the "scale" function is available in the over life graphs.

Sorry I can't go into more detail right now.

OK thanks, I'll play around with this and see what I can do.
