Why do some emitters reset and others don't in ParticleView?

I've noticed in Particle View that some emitters clear the screen after the Repeat period and others just keep emitting.

What settings do I need to change in an emitter that resets so that it continues to emit? If that isn't possible, can the repeat be turned off in Particle View?

I use Particle View as a live visuals tool sometimes so the visual resetting is a bit annoying.

Cheers
Richard

I like this question because it's never been asked (or at least it's been many years since I remember hearing it).

If an emitter animates over time -- one of its property graphs has multiple data points -- then the "repeat" logic kicks in. It finds the last data point and waits some amount of time after that before resetting and starting over. This is so effects that "end" like explosions will start over in the preview window.

You can use the "R" key in particleView to change this repeat delay (default is 2 seconds I think), but you can't turn it off that way.

I *think* repeat will "turn off" while the mouse button is being held down -- at least that's how it works in the preview window in particleIllusion, but I'm not sure if particleView works that way too.

The best way to fix this is at the emitter level. Some emitters have unneeded data points, maybe added by accident, or added on purpose but aren't really needed. You can either find those points and delete them, or add an extra data point somewhere at a very high frame number.

Hi ...

Thanks - that does make sense. It seems that Particle View ignores the mouse held down and resets anyway.

I wonder if the reset will also be triggered in a SuperEmitter where the only parameter graph is in the emitter not the superemitter. WIll try this later!

Cheers
