Particles that don't go to the edges?
on May 14, 2008 at 10:59:53 pm

I have been creating some particles that I bring into my NLE, but I notice when I move or resize them, they are contained within the parameters of the screen and therefore when they reach the edges, create a box so to speak. Is there a setting so that the particles DO NOT reach the edge of the screen, no matter what the size?

I'm not sure that I understand what you mean, but it sounds like you just need to create a larger output size (render higher-resolution output in particleIllusion) so you can move the particleIllusion-created footage around in your final comp.

When for example a tunnel emitter shoots out, it fills the entire screen and therefore crops at the top, bottom and edges. When I therefore bring that into an NLE and try to resize it, I am seeing that cropping around the edges. Does that make sense?

Once you render out the particle via record, then resolution is fixed.
This is normal for all recorded footage.
To get the particle to do what you want, you need to do it in PI via the background image.

It's like when you film a person talking in front of say a bookcase, and now you want to size the footage down to make it seem further away, the book shelf does not magically fill the screen.
Same thing here because it has been prerecorded.

Hope that helps you,

I do understand that, but if the particles did not reach the edges of the screen, it would be easier to resize them smaller because you were never see the cropping.

Ok, now I see what you want. Just go into the project settings and make the stage size larger, or you can also select the emitter "zoom" property and make it smaller.

Either way, the end result is an emitter where the particles don't reach the edge of the stage.

Thanks Alan, my fault. I should be clearer in what I am asking.
