Newbie would appreciate some help
on Sep 9, 2006 at 9:47:25 pm

Hello all,
I am a newbie. Recently saw some example AVI footage of Particle Illusion, where a guy was waving a stick around ( like a magic wand ). As he waved the stick around, sparklers emitted from the tip of the stick. So my question is based around, how do you make emitters " follow " part of an object, as the object moves around on the background footage ???

For example, if I filmed myself holding something, and waving it around, and then used that footage as a background, how could I apply emitters to whatever I am holding ( or waving around ) ??
If anyone can help, it would MAKE MY DAY !!

Humbly, in appreciation.

One way is to key frame it.

Load your AVI as the background and avance to the first frame the effect starts, place your emitter there. Then advance a few frames and move your emitter to the new location.
A new key frame is set, repest this untill the movmemt and effect end.

Go back to frame one play and adjust as needed.

Thank you so much, Bill. You are a gentleman for helping me out. Seems to me, I should be placing the emitter every time the position of the object moves ( noticeably ) ??

[beast666] "Seems to me, I should be placing the emitter every time the position of the object moves ( noticeably ) ??"

That seems correct to me. :-)
You can use as many or as few key frames as you need.

Make sure you're in "Select" mode (mouse cursor looks like an arrow in the stage) instead of "Add" mode (mouse cursor looks like a little circle).

There's a toolbar button for this, or just use the "A" keyboard shortcut.
