Ok I can only afford 1.
Either Particle Illusion or Combustion. Which would you pick for Particles?
Does Particle Illusion have additional particle features that combustion doesn't?
Would AE and Particle Illusion give me the same functionality as Combustion?

The particle system in Combustion is based on the particle system in particleIllusion 2, so pI3 has more features. The biggest differences are that Combustion doesn't have Forces, Super Emitters, and the Don't Erase and Get Color features. There's some info at the bottom of this page that shows those features off.

pI+AE should give you roughly the same capabilities as Combustion. I haven't used Combustion recently enough to know how well it stacks up against AE as a compositor.

Thanks for the response.
I am also in need of particle emiters like the Soap Bubbles in Combustion and other Water and under water effects. I couldn't see much of this type of emitters on the web site.
Does PI 3 have these?

The downloads page has some thumbnail images of all the emitters. There are about 1400 emitters now. The bubbles are definately in one of them, and there have been a couple of super emitters in the last while that were either bubble or splash emitters.

You can also grab the program ShowIEL which lets you browse through all the libraries.

Every particle effect Combustion does, particleIllusion 3 can do, and much more.

If an exact emitter in Combustion isn't available in pI3, it can be duplicated.
