moving files between ae and illusion without the black background

I cannot figure out how to do it without the boxy black background. I just got particle illusion 3 and am trying to move a file to after effects. I want an explosion on top of some text in aftereffects, but whenever I render the explosion in illusion and then import it in aftereffects there is a black background. This background of the explosion blocks out the text under. How do I make it so that only the explosion imports and not the black background around it.

You'll need to render out of pI to a sequence of images with an alpha channel. PNG, TIF, or TGA are the most common options.

That is definately the tutorial to get you started.
