Animating size or zoom
by

Hello all, new user here enjoying PI 3.0 on a Mac. I have noticed that when working with some emitters (library 04-12: Dots Color Slow 06 ie.) I can adjust the size and/or zoom with the first keyframe, but when I try to animate either size or zoom nothing happens. The timeline graph shows the values changing as time passes but there is no visible change to the dots. What am I missing here? Thanks for the help.

Jim

You might be able to do it by shortening the Life of the particles. When particles are born with a Zoom value of 100%, they'll stay at 100% through out their lives. If you add a keyframe at frame 50 or so with a value of 300%, then ones born after frame 50 will be zoomed to 300%, but not ones born before.

At least I think that's how it works. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks but ....

I tried shortening the Life value but then the dots just disappear sooner. It must just be something special about these "Dot" emitters that I am not understanding. Other emitters animate just fine in size and zoom. Thanks anyway, I'll just keep experimenting.

Zoom only effects new particles, and these dots are all created during the first frame - check the number property and you'll see that after frame 1 there are no new particles being generated.

So that explains Zoom. No idea why size isn't working though. I thought it could effect older particles.

Alan, any thoughts?

Anyway, you can set the "size over life" property to change so that over the course of a partticles life it changes size.

Or you could set it to create more particles by deleting the keyframes for number that make it stop emitting, and use the zoom proerty on the new particles.
