play till a certain frame ... then hold
on Nov 16, 2016 at 7:51:47 pm

I dont know how to script in after effects (yet)
Im having a hard time finding how to do the following:

I have many instances of a comp, and I want each one to stop at a different frame..and then hold that stopping frame.
I thought it would be simple to look up...but Im having a hard time

Try enabling time remapping for your comp-instance layer, and add this time remapping expression:

stopFrame = 45;
Math.min(time,framesToTime(stopFrame));

that works. thank you!
Im trying to figure our scripting on my own... but :-(. Trying to find something to explain what timeToFrames() vs FramesToTime means... just finding it used... but no explanations. what am I missing? Is there a good online intro to scripting? Time-oriented scripting specifically?

HERE'S A FOLLOW UP QUESTION:
In addition to changing the stop time... I also need to stagger the START times.
so...

start at frame [startFrame] on timeline...play to frame [startFrame]+[stopFrameInComp]
