script to sequence the numerous layers quickyl
on Jul 11, 2016 at 4:04:08 pm

Hello All - I have a comp where I have several layers stacked up one by one. As a bare minimum to start with I want
all the layers to line up one by one so that I don't need to manually drag one layer's in point to the end of previous layer.
It will take lot of time if I have to manually adjust all these layers (there are more than 60 of them).
Is there anyway i can do it automatically through any script or something similar. Is there any help someone can provide?

Much appreciated. Thanks!

How about AE's Sequence Layers menu option?

Animation > Keyframe Assistant > Sequence Layers...

Hello Dan - on the similar context if I want to rename a number of layers (for ex: I need to rename all the layers where the name starts with "Metallic" to "Regent") how do I do that? Is there any easy way to do or I need to go manually change one by one? Please advise.

I think a little script like this should work:

str1 = "Metallic";
str2 = "Regent";
var comp = app.project.activeItem;
for (var i = 1; i <= comp.numLayers; i++){
if (comp.layer(i).name.substr(0,str1.length) == str1)
comp.layer(i).name = str2 + comp.layer(i).name.substr(str1.length);
}
