Why is this expression not working?

Why is this expression not working?

I'm using the expression below.

It works ok, but as you can see I have no need for variable "y", however if I remove it the expression breaks and gives an error stating expression result must be of dimension 2, not 1.

I know the answer is simple: Do not remove y, but I'm a bit OCD and I like to have clean code.

Any ideas?

fadeDur = 1;
if (time &lt; (inPoint+outPoint)/2)
x=ease(time,inPoint,inPoint+fadeDur,0,topVal)
else
x=ease(time,outPoint-fadeDur,outPoint,topVal,0)
y=100;
[x,x];

I think you just need to add a semicolon to the line above the one you're taking out.
