 Fill Multiple Mask Flash/Strobe... Expression Please? on Apr 12, 2014 at 8:36:52 am

Hi Guys,

I have a solid layer that has 83 masks attached to this..
Is thare an easy way of makig each mask flash or change colours softly (random colours) sorta like a multicoloured disco floor

I have multiple layers with multiple masks and this would really speed up the process as opposed to 500 different solids!

I guess you could have 83 copies of the Fill effect, each assigned to a different mask. You could have a randomizing expression for the Color parameter of the Fill, but there are any number of ways of approaching it, depending on the look you're going for.

That sounds just about right but that's a whole lotta masks :( The easist method would be best if possible

What would that expression be?

I'm sorry, it's the expression (not the overall solution) that I was referring to in my last sentence. It really depends on the parameters of your color changes: are there specific colors, color ranges, or is it just random? Do they all change at once? Do they all change at the same frequency?

They are expected to all be random but controllable speed is the only determining factor they change at the same freqency but different times if that makes sense so literally random haha if that best explains

The effect that happens at 1:10 is perfect but abit slower

Thanks for the response buddy!

Hmm. Your example doesn't appear to be random. It appears to be a hue cycle maybe. Add a fill effect to a layer and add this expression to the Color property:

hsl = rgbToHsl(value);
h = time%1;
hslToRgb([h,hsl[1],hsl[2],hsl[3]])

That might give you some ideas.

Hey Dan,
I really like that effect, i'll try and apply the same to each fill and see if it gives me random colours too! I think both effects would really work. every square random at first then strobing together like in your example.
