Sliding in Multiple Objects
on Jan 4, 2013 at 2:02:33 am

Hey guys.

Sorry for how basic this question probably is, but what expression is used to have a solid object (or any layer) slide/move position with duplicate layers copying the motion, but with separations of 'n' pixels on the x-axis.

I could just start them offset and use a delay expression so that they finish with the same offset but in a different position, but is there a better way (say if I wanted to start them all at the same location so that it appears that shape slides out to become 'n' offset shapes).

This article might help. It describes two types of follow-the-leader motion--where all the layers start and finish at the same positions, and where they maintain a specific separation (like cars on a train).

Hopefully you will find it useful:

Thanks for taking the time to answer such a question that you've likely answered 50,000 times previosuly.

I've read your explanations a few times previously but what was getting me was how to ad the 'n' pixel separation to the x-axis only.

Alas, I found that you answered it perfectly on another Adobe post

The code that I was looking for is:

thisComp.layer("Black Solid 1").transform.position.valueAtTime(time -.1) - [20,0];
