Is there a way to return which mask vertices the user has selected?

I have built a script for recording the position of bezier points, but the way I select the desired point is a little clunky. I have a button that creates a null and then cycles through each point so you can visualize the selection. I also have options for checking bezier points up and down the array so I can average them.

Ideally, what I want to do is have the user select the points they want, and get the average position for the 'tracking' data.

My thoughts on the order:
Check which mask is selected
Check which vertices are selected
Add the positions of the selected vertices and divide by the number selected

Thanks in advance for any help.

As far as I know, the selection status of a mask vertex is not accessible.

Maybe you could create and position little guide layers above the mask vertices. Then the user could select them and you could detect it. Just a thought...
