 Trying to duplication a cool effect on May 17, 2011 at 9:21:10 pm

I am an editor without much AE knowledge but I find myself needing to do a small animation for a job. I looked around and really like the way an Australian TV show "Hungry Beast" does animated diagrams to convey a mass of facts and information. Here is an example:

I am trying to replicate the effect where the images appear by rotating into view and then moving back and forth a little at the end, like they were spring loaded.

I played around with expressions based on the Motion Script simulations:
http://www.motionscript.com/mastering-expressions/simulation-basics-3.html
but these dont work with the orientation parameter it seems. I get an error message, see attached for screenshot:

I am wondering if anyone knows how to achieve this by either using expressions OR another method / plugin I am not familiar with.

Many thanks,
Taki.

Try this. Where you want the animation to start, set a keyframe for x rotation with a value of -90 degrees. A few frames layer, change the value to 0. Add this expression:

``` n = 0; if (numKeys > 0){ n = nearestKey(time).index; if (key(n).time > time) n--; } if (n > 0){ t = time - key(n).time; amp = velocityAtTime(key(n).time - .001); freq = 2; decay = 3; w = freq*Math.PI*2; value + amp* Math.sin(t*w)/Math.exp(decay*t)/w }else{ value } ```
Thank you so much Dan.
Just pasted it in and it worked straight away!
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your taking the time to respond to me.
Maybe I can return the favour. I have a new documentary out: http://www.billionairesteaparty.com -> If you would like a free copy I'd be happy to send one wherever you are. Otherwise just a big thanks from me.
