Random position
on Jan 25, 2011 at 4:01:22 pm

Hey, im new here and first i would like to say is taht i'm jsut a beginner in After Effects. I have made a 3D room and i have about 40 objects that have to be placed in this room. They all have to have a different x,y and rotation. If i have to do this manually, it'll take forever, so is there a trick or script or something to give them all a random position? They don't have to move, they just have to stand stil in the room. If i mae mistakes, i;m sorry, im Dutch xD
Hope someone can help me!

Something like this for position (you'll need to adjust the first 6 parameters to fit the dimensions of your room):

minX = 100;
maxX = 600;
minY = 100;
maxY = 500;
minZ = 0;
maxZ = 1000;
seedRandom(index,true);
random([minX,minY,minZ],[maxX,maxY,maxZ])

And this for rotation

seedRandom(index,true);
random(360)

Or, orientatin:

seedRandom(index,true);
random([360,360,360])

Dan
