if you loop a camera output into a black & white preview monitor and then the output of the monitor to a switcher will the output from the monitor be in color or b/w? SD, will it cause signal loss.
We have three sony wall mounted cameras going to a vaddio switcher which only shows one preview source at a time. the switcher has a b/c connection. because of cost I want to use a old quad b/w rack mount monitor, take the output of the cameras into the monitor then the out of the monitor to the switcher.
Yes, this way is a perfect way to get individual monitors for all your sources. The video is not changed in any way by going through the B&W monitor. Just be sure to turn off any termination or 75 ohm switch which might be on the monitors when you use the loop through. In a video signal, the color is modulated onto a subcarrier portion of the video signal which is ignored by the B&W but will remain when it passes through.

Far from perfect. Adding a video DA would be a better solution. One feed to the monitor, one to the switcher and another available for an ISO record if needed. If there's no money in the budget then looping through the monitor is the only option for dedicated camera preview.
