Recording Archival Studio Video
on Nov 17, 2009 at 6:48:35 am

Alright, here's one.

At school we record our studio shoots on DV tape.

We have excellent studio cameras (don't know the exact make/model), a Ross Synergy 4 switcher -- it's being done right.

But I want the most in terms of quality coming out of my archival footage. Is there a way to record pure SD-SDI in the same quality as it leaves our studio? How?

And on a similar, related note: I often notice local TV stations replaying in-house shows (news rebroadcasts, etc) from earlier in the day. The quality is much more disgusting. I'm guessing it's because they're no longer taking the feed straight from the switcher, but a recording (probably to DV tape) and replaying that. Hypothetically, along the same lines as my question above, how could they get that same quality from the switcher (or a network satellite feed they're rebroadcasting) to be replayed later?
