Panasonic AG-MX70 in 16:9 YPbPr

I've been using this mixer in 4:3 consistently for a few years now and other than the buss glitch when switching on the same bus, the mixer has been fine. I do not have the SDI in/out card. Now I've been given the task to use the mixer in 16:9 mode. All my input sources are 16:9 and outputs are 16:9 so I'm wondering if the mixer is actually passing the 16:9 signal through on the Y, Pb, Pr ins/outs or if that function in the menu is more just for show. Has anyone successfully used the mixer in 16:9? I'm using a Sony DSR-1500 DVCAM to record, which has wide mode. But I'm wondering and hoping the widescreen component signal is actually such when it gets to the recording deck.
Thanks for your help!

chris

it will work fine in 16:9
signal wise there's no difference between 16:9 and 4:3.
the content is only anamorphic distorted
the only thing that really changes is the circle wipe ;-)

SO is 16:9 in the mixer really letterbox 4:3?

hi chris.

it's anamorphic in the mixer.
when looked on a 4:3 only monitor a circle will look like an egg.
the camera will capture it in 1024x576 and squeeze it to 720x576.
in the physical layer say electronic the signal has the same properties. but the actual content is horizontal squeezed back to fit in.
