DigiBeta vs. Standard Beta

We were having a discussion in our office about digibeta, and a question came up that no one could answer. What exactly is the difference between digital beta tapestock and it's analog forebears? Of course we know that you record digital signals on one and analog on the other, but is there an actual physical difference between the two tapes? For instance, does one have a different kind of magnetic coating, or are the cassettes cases different sizes? Or are they physically the same thing, just used differently? Could you, in theory, throw a blank digibeta into your analog camera and go shooting?

We're still in the analog world when it comes to Beta, so we weren't sure, and don't have any real way to test it on our own.

if you want to kill your analog equipment you can.;-)

the coating on the digital tape's is like sandpaper for your analog head's. the spec's of the coating is completely different.

I figured it was something like that, but wasn't sure. Thanks!
