Lifespan of Sony decks?

Just curious if anyone had any info regarding the lifespan and number of drum hours I'd expect to get out of a new Betacam SP deck, specifically the UVW series? Knowing the other series, DVW, J decks, etc, would be helpful too.

Basically, how many hours can they accrue before they start to need work?

thanks!

My CE says two thou, over one thou for certain. We use them every day.

Awesome, thanks for the info Mark! That's what I figured...I've definitely been in places where their UVW decks were used like that for 15 years.

Seriously? UVW? You might get 30 hours. I've seen them have problems in that small of amount of time. There's a reason they only had 60 day warranties.

Why are you buying a new one? You can pick up ten perfectly good used ones for the price of a new one.

Sorry, I disagree with the last statement.
We are still running VVW, PVW, BVW and DNW series decks here. Some have many thousands of hours on them. I've replaced the heads, capstans, pinch rollers, etc. many time over but the decks are still pretty solid after years of use. We are a production house and we don't abuse the decks like a TV station might, but they have still been very reliable.
30 hours? Not chance unless you got a lemon deck.
Tom
