I was just wondering what this term meant in relation to broadcast safe area?

Unless you're doing work for the BBC, you shouldn't have to worry about it. And if you ARE doing work for the BBC, you already know about it.

Its a half way house between 16-9 and 4-3.Meaning shoot for the full 16-9 frame,but keep important material within a frame ratio of 14-9.Most pro 2/3 inch video camera,s have this ratio as an option as a safe area in the view finder in their menu,s.

As people get 16-9 TV,s it will become obsolete... better than 4-3 safe anyway!
