I've seen this coming through our facility a couple of times and would like to see what you think is the best workflow for DVCPRO HD to HDCAM using Kona gear running under FCP.
Th equipment that I have at our facility, a mac w/Kona3 and FCP, a mac w/Kona2 and FCP, the HDCAM-SR 5500 deck and a SONY HD CRT monitor.
Typical workflow, clients shoot on p2 media at 720p 23.98 and as I understand it really is just 23.98 packed into a 720 60i signal w/redundant frames. When I play this out using KonaTV, the signal is in fact a 720 60i signal.
The HDCAM-SR deck can record HDCAM, but only at 1080psf23.98 and 1080i60.
So, either I can take the 720p dvcprohd file and upres it to 1080psd23.98 using final cut (it will play out without rendering "orange") or have the kona3 card convert that to 108060i on the output.
Is this the correct to do this or does someone else have any suggestions?
