Power Requirements for "News" Set
on Jan 8, 2008 at 8:33:28 pm

Hello,

I have a basic electrical engineering question. How much power should I request when setting up a small studio "news" set?

I can consider the area to be lit, the amount of lighting instruments and their power needs, some guesses on power requirements for heat/air for the entire space, and some extra "juice" for running monitoring equipment, etc., toss in some extra amps, and then come up with a total amperage amount. Is this the way to do it, or is there a tested generic formula like, "TV news set of 500 square feet needs X amps...?"

What considerations am I missing?

Thanks...

Will all gear be on the same phase?

Mark,

I answer your follow-up with some trepidation as my understanding of electrical current is limited. I'm guessing power will be 3-phase to follow heat/air commercial requirements already in place, but that a separate box converting to single-phase is possible to provide power for video equipment. Is this what you mean?

Thanks for your help.
