Does anybody know how to activate the timecode superimpose facility on the composite video output of this deck?

On most Sonys you throw a switch called "Character-ON" (or its a menu choice).

Some decks will have a separate composite out (that displays overlays) with the label "Super".

You're right about most Sonys but this has no seperate Super out on the back or a characters on switch (it was a very basic office player so there are no menus). I'm pretty sure it was done with an internal switch but I'm not sure... hence the post

Oh yeah, I had one of those.

It really had low-quality playback, too.

But there is a remote control for it (its both WIRED and wire-LESS).

Could be the the ability to switch the characters to On-Screen was on that.

Could be that you CAN'T switch the characters to On-Screen at all (I juist can't remember).

It's just being used as an office player so the quality is not really important. According to specs I have found about it, there is the ability to super the timecode over the video. I'm wondering if maybe it's not on the normal composite out and controlled by a switch but on the other connector on the back of the machine which is one of those horrible 6 or 8 pin connectors you get on old broadcast kit.

Have you opended ALL of the doors on this thing?
Are you SURE you checked every switch?

Front and back?

Man, its been years since I had one of these.

There's always the "RF out" (Ch. 3 or 4) but I think I made some "burned-in TC window dubs" to VHS from this unit from the composite out.

Don't remember having to jump thru hoops to do it.

Cracked it!!

It turned out that the reason the superimpose switch wasn't working was not due to an internal switch setting at all... it was the fact that the switch has gone duff. Just managed to get it working and hey presto... timecode in vision!!!

Thanks for your help, making me look closely at the problem shed some light!!!
