JVC vs. Sony
on Feb 26, 2006 at 1:27:53 am

Hi all -

I shoot on the JVC-5000 camera. I shoot mostly wedding video, with some event video on the side.

To keep my costs down when I purchased gear, I did not get a deck. I've been using my camera to just play it and digitize the whole tape into the computer. Yet, the time has come for me to get a deck.

So I'm looking for opinions on what deck to get. I have seen the Sony DSR-11 in action, and have heard it's very reliable. But since I have a JVC camera, I ran across a JVC deck, the BR-DV3000U. I'd like your opinions on the differences between the two decks, and/or more importantly, differences between JVC and Sony gear in general.

Thanks for your opinions!

Carl

The Sony DSR11 is the "WORKHORSE of the industry" for edit-bay DV decks.

It has the advantage of being able to play and RECORD DV and DVCAM speed.

It will also play and RECORD in the PAL format (if you have a PAL source).

And it has been tried-and-true in hundreds (thousands?) of bays for several YEARS.

The JVC is really an "unknown quantity" at this point (no user reviews that I can find).

But, you simply can't go wrong the DSR11.
