I remember a thread awhile back about mastering, and I'm looking for input on my company's mastering standards. Of course I think they're excessive because I'm an editor trying to get out of dubs :-) Seriously though, we finally got a decent rack room, are training PAs to do good dubs, and our new sound guy doesn't like sending international stuff out in mono, so now might be a good time to question the status quo.
Here is a sample of our mastering standards:
Standard def shows:
Stereo/Texted/Closed Captioned (one for client, one to keep in-house)
Split/Textless (Ch. 1 VOs/Intervews, Ch. 2 M&E)
Hi def shows - One HD plus one downconvert of each:
2xStereo/Texted - One for client, one in-house
4 channel split/Textless (Ch. 1 VO, Ch. 2 Interview, Ch. 3 FX/Nats, Ch. 4 Music)
