video or audio watermarking

Anyone use any sort of watermarking for their spots? Either video or audio watermarking? We're looking at 3 companies so far: Confirmedia (verance), BVS (makes Veil), Teletrax.

An audio watermark... that's a new one on me.
I suppose it exists, but I'd be interested in knowing how such a thing would work and not disrupt the audio. At least in video you can confine the watermark to a small portion of the picture.

The company I work for uses Verance, Veil , Teletrax, & Sigma (nielsen)...

Here's what I know (or think I know ;-))

Verance is an audio watermark (export audio for Avid, run thru encoder software, import encoded audio back into Avid and output-to-tape) - though I think they also have a "stand alone" box

Veil encodes its' watermark in video (uses full frame of video) encoding info on each line of alternating fields

Teletrax uses a portion of the video (I believe it encodes its' info in regions of high contrast, sharp lines, etc.)

and last but not least...

Sigma (nielsen) puts its' info in vertical interval (lines 20 & 22)

I'm sure there are others on the board who can add more to this thread, but I hope this gets you started

Cheers,
Randy

Companies have been marking using ultra-tiny CG type way out of safe title for decades. That's easy enough to defeat if you are looking for it, by masking or DVE-ing it out. Putting something in the close-captioned line 21 area is also done. I knew about digitally watermarking still images, but not about video, I'll have to check those companies out.

Veil encoding degrades the picture.
