which monitor for best view in video editing
on Oct 26, 2005 at 8:02:24 pm

hi from Italy
I'm new on broadcast and i work with media 100 on apple, using pal system and usually in digital format dvcam
i need an external monitor (no more a tv) to send signal and control video quality, colors etc..
I'm searching for professional but not expensive monitor, i can use bnc or other analogic output
from my computer. What i should search? What features I've to check?
Lcd or trinitron etc....

Any suggestion?

If you want to view the most ACCURATE image, you still want to use a CRT (picture tube) monitor and NOT an LCD or Plasma display.

CRT monitors are no longer going to be made and you may be able to get a bargain if you look.

Sony brand "broadcast" monitors are very popular.

Google for "Sony Broadcast Monitor PAL".

S-Video, RGB, Component, and/or FireWire inputs (if your gear has any of those options) are preferred connections over BNC Composite.

Matte is spot on as usual.
The Sony BVM line is their Broadcast level monitors. So you might be surprised at the price. I've bought several monitors over the past couple of years, and I've always ended up the the Sony PVM line. For price and value, they are the best. Ikagemi makes great monitors as well, but they might be harder to get in Italy?

Good Luck,
