quality of Sony digiBeta (4x3 vs. 16:9)

Hi guys,
I don't know if this would be better suited in a different forum. But.....

We shot on Sony DigiBeta and someone noticed a quality difference when keying 4x3 or 16x9. 4x3 was noticeably better. Sony Broadcast in Sydney told us the camera has better resolution at 4x3. Now, I'm not a camera op, just an editor. But could someone confirm if this is true and explain to me why?

Cheers,

The reverse should be true if the camera was a switchable 16x9 and 4x3 CCD block.

In other words the 16x9 actually would have better resolution because it would use all the pixels available instead of center cropping for the 4x3 image.

However if you shot with a native 4x3 camera then that model would have better resolution compared to the switchable camera version.

Other factors that would effect keying would be the lighting, edge enhancement on the camera, color spill on the subject, distance from subject to chroma key backdrop or set.

the camera is a native 16:9 CCD.

Do digiBeta compress at 50Mbps? Maybe it would be better at 4:3 because there is less area to compress.
