5k Compression - Green Bars Visible

Hi Guys,

I wondered if anybody could help me, basically I have a number of animations created in Adobe Suite CS6 and C4D R14 with final rendered exports at just over 5k width, 1k high (Sorry I can't give specifics due to project NDA) Square Pixels, 30fps, animation codec, no sound. - This has all gone swimmingly, just a little render intensive!

Now.... the problem...

I am trying to compress these large .mov files in to 30mbps H264 .mov files and have encountered varying issues with a number of compression programmes.

MPEG Streamclip - crashes almost immediately when I try to render.
Quicktime 7 Export - crashes almost immediately when I try to render.
Adobe Media Encoder - cannot encode anything above standard formats typically.

So I tried Episode Pro...

It can encode the video file but leaves a green bar to the right hand side of the encoded file - I can only assume the issue here is that it is above 4k? any robust programmes that people can recommend me testing?

Computer Spec:
Mac OS X 10.6.8
3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
16GB Ram
2x1024mb ATI Radeon HD 5770

Software Used:
Adobe Suite CS6
C4D R14
MPEG Streamclip
Episode Pro 6.2.2.9

I may be wrong, but the maximum resolution supported by H.264 is 4,096 × 2,304, only in version 5.1 and 5.2.

If it's a multi-panel display the manufacturer either provides hardware or software solutions to get it done.

The only option I know of for 5K is an image sequence. You could wrap this sequence in a container format (MOV, MKV, etc.).

Hope this helps.

Try Roxio Toast Titanium with the H.264 plugin. It is very stable.

Thanks Guys for your insight.

Unfortunately toast cannot encode to my native resolution but did manage to encode to 4096 width so is clearly a pretty robust programme.

If anybody else has any ideas please let me know :)

Sadly,

It's not possible with these proportions. h.264/mp4 is defined by a Profile and a Level.

There is no Level (right now) that describes beyond 4k, which is why this won't work. You'll have to go to something else for a deliverable.
