Vertical lines in Compression
on Feb 12, 2013 at 6:33:44 pm

Hi,

I've exported a film shot on a Sony HDR-FX7 at 30 fps. It was exported to a 40g, uncompressed .mov from Final Cut, and I'm very happy with the quality. However, when I go to compress it to create a smaller file (.mp4 for internet, and .m2v for DVD), these vertical lines appear on all edges. Anti-aliasing didn't work - how can I compress and get the video to the quality in which it looks at 40 gigs? I've tried a thousand different compression methods, but none seem to be working...

Thanks in advance!

When you mean edges do you mean the edges of the frame or the objects in the frame? Can you post a screen grab?

Hi Sareesh,

The edges of the objects in frame. The vertical lines create a 'staircasing' on everything. Again, anti-aliasing didn't work in Compression.

Please see screenshots attached. You'll see the edges - looks even worse with movement.

Hi Sareesh,

Please click on one of these links:

http://i1.creativecow.net/u-upload.php#

Then in the upper right corner you'll see two more links titled "screenshot2013..." If you click on each of them, a small screenshot will appear in the window. Click on that window again to make it larger. You'll see the staircasing/vertical lines I'm talking about...

If that doesn't work, is there another way for you to see?

Thanks so much.

Doesn't work. It just takes me to a page where I have to upload images. Can you upload it somewhere and share the link?
