MP4 or MOV? 1920x1080 or 864x486? 5000kbs or 3000kbs?

Hi,

I'm trying to find the best way to compress my HD video online, to be played on both youtube and vimeo.

Here are some questions:

MP4 (H.264) or MOV?

Should I export as 1920x1080 or 864x486 will be just fine? The latter looks fine, but youtube or vimeo doesn't give the HD option.

And what about the kbs, doing higher numbers give a much bigger file. Do I need to go as high as 5000 or 6000, or should I stick with 1000?

I'm exporting from final cut pro.

Any help or thoughts is much appreciated!

Thanks!
Daniel

This depends on what you want. If your source is 1920x1080 why not stick with that an offer HD?

Are you concerned about quality? YouTube and Vimeo recompress the video. You want to give them as much data as possible. Please read this.

The youtube article is very helpful!!!

I think my additional concern is for those clients who choose to show the videos on their websites. As some may have less than ideal servers, I'm worry with the 'eternal' buffering/pausing the videos may cause if the files are too big.
