which settings in compressor for MOV-Container, PAL(SD)-resolution, DV-Code

Hi!

Im going to send a screening copy to a film festival. They want the following format:

MOV-Container, PAL(SD)-resolution, DV-Codec, output field: bottom
first, 48 KHZ, 16 Bit

Right now I got this:

Frame size:
1440x1080

Vid Rate
25 fps

Compressor
HDV1080i50

Pixel Aspect:
HD (1440x1080)

Audio format
16-bit integer

Audio Rate
48 Khz

when I resize the file to get it into SD PAL shall I then use the resize tab (on quicktime settings) and choose:
framesize: 720x576
Pixel Aspect: PAL CCIR601 (16:9)

correct?

which settings shall I use in compressor to get the best quality?

thanks

perik

Use the PAL DV preset.

Jeff, I was reading your post looking for an answer similar to this. I have compressor 3.0.5 I need to compress a project on my FCP timeline that is SD to PAL to be used in New Zealand.
I dont see a "DV Preset" in Compressor. I see the following 5 presets:
1. mpeg -4 basic pal for modem streaming
2. mpeg - 4 improved pal for cd
3. mpeg -4 improved pal for east cable streaming
4. mpeg - 4 improved pal large progressive
5. mpeg - 4 improved pal small progressive

I compressed a 1 hour video using preset 1. It produced a 500 meg file, this cant be right! My mpeg -2 files usually create a 3 gig file.

Am I right to set the size to 576 lines in 4:3 format??
The inspector has a lot of other settings that I am not sure of.

Your help greatly appreciated.

In the settings box of compressor, you should see the following folders:
Apple Devices, DVD, Formats, Other workflows.

If you don't see these 4, something is wrong.

In Other Workflows/Advanced format conversions/Standard Definition
There should be a DV-PAL preset.

Alternately, you should be able to type DV into the search box of the settings window.

Let me know what happens

Jeff,
Thanks for the info. I was not sure that compressor would convert video formats as well as compress.

However...................

The process is painfully slow, how slow??

The rate that it went, I was able to calculate that a 2 hour video would keep my MAC busy for over 7 days straight. IMAC with Core I5, 2.5 gig CPU.

This is not acceptable.
There has to be a better way.
Mike

Mike,

Something else is going on. It certainly shouldn't take that long. At the longest, it should take 2-3x the timeline.

See if Compressor Repair fixes it.

One thought, how are you getting it from FCP to Compressor?

Jeff,
I am going via "File" --- "Export" ---Export to Compressor, in other words , from the time line, as I do for my NTSC projects which run about 1.25x.
I have received info from another source that it would be very slow.
Mike
