My Video File won't play in mpeg streamclip and quicktime( which i have the latest versions) it just appears white with no sound. But it will play fine in VLC player fine and in compressor just freezes when I load it. I need to get it to play in quicktime, or does anyone who a good compression software I can buy to convert it? or what the problem is?

What you're seeing is typical. Quicktime is not good at playing MPEG2 Program Streams. Your specs look like they're geared towards broadcast delivery as a mezzanine file given the specs and data rate.

There's no reason to expect or even have as a goal for this to play in Quicktime.

If this is a source file then encode to one of Compressor's Quicktime 7 presets or create your own.
If Compressor can't handle it as a source I'd recommend trying Telestream Episode.

Ok thanks, is this the only program that will encode these? or are there any free or cheaperones?

Will that quicktime plug-in http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A be able to at least play it in quicktime?

Try MPEGStreamclip. It doesn't have to play it, just encode it to H.264. As long as you can see the video it'll work.

MPEG Streamclip probably won't allow you to transcode without purchasing the MPEG-2 Playback Component. You can try exporting from VLC using the streaming/exporting wizard, although it's kind of an annoying and limited process.

If she has Compressor she might have the playback component as it was included with FCS (although I'm not sure about the current version). There are some MPEG2 Program Stream encodes that Quicktime won't playback even with the component though.

Alas this is one good reason why I use Episode.

You might try this since it's based on ffmpeg. It's not free but it's certainly inexpensive and getting good reviews.

By the way, the MPEG-2 Playback Component is only $20. I don't actually have it, so I can't really vouch for it.

(For broadcast work I use Episode with broadcast presets provided by the client).

I have the MPEG2 component from a previous FCS install. It didn't seem to come with FCS3 though so I just moved it in from an older computer. I noticed that Rachel's file is 4:2:2 and that might be the issue. I think the component only plays 4:2:0.

If I encode MPEG2 4:2:2 Program Stream for DG Fastchannel in Episode, Quicktime will not show the video even though I know I have the component installed.
