Which format to use for video? USB 2.0 Distribution
on May 21, 2010 at 3:14:18 pm

Hi. I´m doing some showreel distribution on USB keys. I´m looking for a codec, that will stream of the USB being compatible with..say...USB 2.0 HiSpeed.

The original footage is DV-PAL coded into Prores footage.

I need it to run on both PC and MAC, and be playable with standard players.

Question:

1. Is there a format, which will play with default installations on both OSX and Windows?

2. If not. I will make two different files, and label them OSX and Windows. But which format for each, taking into account the transfer speeds of a USB port. I would prefer to be able to play directly of the key, without the customer needing to copy the materal onto HDD.

3. Any other things I should worry about?

PS.
I´m using Compressor or Mpeg Streamclip to compress the file.

If you want to cover ALL bases use MPEG-1.

This is more about data rate than format check out the transfer specs of USB 2.0 and decide. I'd maybe do one WMV and the other would be H.264 MP4.

Does Leopard and Snow Leopard come standard with the h.264 codec?
