Creating Mpeg2 + AC3 (surround) in Compressor
on Mar 26, 2010 at 11:01:54 am

Hi

I'm trying to encode an HD short film for digital cinema display.

The specs I have been given are below, but I'm not entirely sure how to set up Compressor to create an Mpeg2 file with AC3 audio... it seems to insist on mpeg stereo audio..

Here's the specs:

Image coding: MPEG2 MP@HL
Image coding max bitrate: 15Mbps - 80Mbps
Imagres: 1920x1080
Frame rate: to match image frame rate.
Audio encoding: AC3
Audio bit rate; 448kps
Audio sample: 48 khz
Audio coing embedded TC: no
Content packaging: MPEG2 Transport Stream

Is this a job for compressor? Or should i be doing it in something else?

Cheers
Chris

I'm pretty sure you use compressor

Compressor is certainly up to the job. Are you trying to make an AC3 surround file out of a stereo source?. Obviously AC3 can be just 2 channels but you need to specify this in the Audio tab settings.

All this is very clearly run through in the Compressor manual.

Thanks for the replies.

Just needed to know it was possible so I didn't spend hours trying to figure out whether it can be done... I will check the compressor manual now..

Cheers
Chris

Ok so I've made my Mpeg 2 with the surround function in compressor, but when I open the video file in mpeg streamclip it says I only have stereo audio... is this normal? Or have I done something wrong?

(Btw I was given 5 audio tracks to allocate for the 5.1 surround)

What version of compressor are you using?

Have you opened it in Quicktime, if so what information does that give you?

I'm using 3.51. Quicktime doesn't seem to want to open the file...

I attached the audio files to each speaker, added the video then applied MPEG2 compression setting and sent to batch.. that seems to be the way to do it?
