What Mac Specs are Most Important for Fast Compressing?
on Nov 20, 2009 at 10:40:03 pm

What are the most important specs on a Mac to enable compressing (with Compressor) in as little time as possible? Does one want to spend money on a fast processor? RAM?

We're buying a Mac that will be dedicated to compressing programs to put up online and want to know where best to put the dollars spent on the computer.

Thank you.

Yes. Yes. Actually more cores. 8 cores is currently the best (dual Quad). I've heard people varyingly say a minimum of 1GB or 2GB per core. So an 8 Core with 8GB or 16GB even better. If you can do 32GB RAM go for it. You then create a "QuickCluster" (Virtual Cluster) in Qmaster.
