Plugin for Apple Compressor
on Sep 25, 2009 at 6:36:27 pm

We upgraded to the new Final Cut Studio with FCP7 and Compressor 3.5. I was curious if there are any plugins for compressor that can produce better quality MPEG-2 streams.

A while ago I read about a Cinema Craft MP plugin, but I assume it is no longer available since couldn't find any recent information on the software online. And I just saw the Episode link on the webpage of Compressor 3.5.

Which software is recommended to get better quality compressions compared to what Compressor can produce without going above the $1,000 (US) price point? Or is Compressor the best bet for those who can't invest in high-end compression gear?

Before I posted I saw that same weblink to the MP encoder. However it linked to the homepage, and the current site has no information about the MP encoder for Apple's Compressor. The only products featured are reneat, HD encoder, Xtream, and SP2... all for PC platforms. Seems like it is no longer supported.

I noticed that too. I can imagine people who paid for the expensive plugin are now LIVID. Of course maybe sales were too low to continue the R&D.

I think the ubiquity of Compressor has quelled much competition even though Compressor's MPEG-2 encoding is certainly not spectacular.

There are a few though alternatives though
