DVD player won't play

Just burned my project onto a DVD 5, with highest bit rate compression. My dvd player is about 5/6 years old, so I'm sure I can't handle it. Just wondering if there is a general bit rate used in the industry that is sure to play on most standard players?

It's hard to pin an exact number. The range seems to be peaks of 6.5 to 7.5. I take the more cautious road generally. The spec is 9.9 but that just goes to show how unrealistic a spec can be.

BTW I've seen cases where some encoders overshoot the peak so there's always some risk.

Yes, a true 7.0 CBR plus audio plays on everything I've come across. Bear in mind that this is still a very high datarate and should only be needed for most demanding types of content.
