.dv to uncompressed quicktime

Hello,

I hope something can explain something to me.
I have a short clip which is a DV - PAL file (extension is .dv) The file size is 110 MB. Now the quality of the clip is quite crappy. Especially text looks really bad. And it just looks a bit choppy.
Now I opened it in Quicktime exported it as an uncompressed quicktime 10-bit, 4:2:2. Then the clip looks really good.
But I don't understand why. I always learned that crappy video's can't be made into good quality videos. So why does this work?

Thank you,
Irene

In Quicktime you need to set the 'High Quality checkbox to 'On'. I can't remember if you need Quicktime Pro to do this or not.

Rest assured that the low quality version is only for viewing -all the quality is there.

Thank you very much for your reply. When I checked the High Quality boxed everything looks perfect.
