Program Stream Multiplexing Software

Hello all, and thanks in advance as always.

Any suggestions for a Multiplexer Software package that can create Program Streams? I'm aware of the Manzanita Systems "System and Program Stream Multiplexer", but want to explore any other available options.

Best,
Tim

Manzanita is one of the better ones out there, usually you'll find muxing as part of a transcoding system rather than as a standalone application or solution, certainly in the software world.

You've obviously used Google to look for other solutions, one of the popular free alternatives is provided by ffmpeg

There are all sorts of other options, it just depends on workflow, budget and resource.

I've got Episode available already, and may try to work with that using exports directly out of Final Cut, at least before considering an additional purchase.

Thanks for the feedback.

There's no reason to need anything other than what you'll get out of Episode, if you do then your client is being particularly difficult!

If you get to that point, it's likely you'll need to move over to Windows as that's where most of the other solution lie.

I think BitVice used to offer a free multiplexing software on their site. Could try that.

In the past I've used hardware based encoding (Optibase) off of Digibeta masters, with good results - but it would improve workflow and eliminate costs to work straight through Episode.

Has anyone had any negative experiences with encoding MPEG 2 Program Streams in Episode?

Also, any suggestions for a good simulator to test and view these files?

Thanks everyone for always being so helpful.

Best,
Tim

TMPGEnc will also do this and it's cheap. In fact, I believe the original software guy gives away an older versions of it hoping people will pay for the upgrades. It's called TMPGEnc Free. There's a paid version that has additional features for only $37.
