Recently Changed Youtube settings

I have read a wealth of posts about uploading videos to Youtube. Recently, they have changed the requirements for uploading HD videos to their site. Does anyone have the latest and best compression settings for Youtube? My videos are 960x720 shot on a Panasonic HVX200. Most of the videos are about 5 minutes in length. I have read that to fill the Youtube viewing window you need to submit 1280x720 yet the window is only 640x360. Can I take my 960x720 and fill the window with a high quality picture?

Yes,

Render your video at 1280x720 square pixels. Use h.264/avc to do it. I use about 6 Mbps. You can do a 2-pass if you like. I've been VERY pleased with the results.

"Can I take my 960x720 and fill the window with a high quality picture?"

960x720 is non-square pixel 16:9
1280x720 is square pixel 16:9

Youtube, like everything else on a computer, use square pixels.

If you uploaded 960x720 to youtube the image would looked very squashed indeed.

As such you need to resize to 1280x720 first.
