Any Good Books On Compression?????
on Aug 9, 2008 at 5:06:04 pm

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone knew of any good books on the different codecs and compression settings. I just finished classroom in a book cs3, and although it explained a little on the subject, it really didn't get as in depth as i had hoped. I'm trying to understand when and why to use which settings. I understand there are many third party codecs too. any advice? anyone know where i should look? thanks for the help everyone!!

I still find Ben Waggoner's book a great reference.

A new edition of Ben Waggoner's book is in the works according to the CMP editor I spoke with at Streaming Media East. It was in the proof reading stage at that time.

Wow, I don't know where Ben gets the time, what with a full time job, a family and the amount he contributes to the various forums around the net. Mind you, if he writes as fast as he talks....! ;-)

About 130 word a minute last I checked :).

I mainly do the forums when my machines are all busy doing rendering, or when I need to procrastinate.

That's the secret of highly productive people, I think. They've always got two important projects going at once, so that when they procrastinate from one thing, they procrastinate by doing real world on the other...

I was up working on some Olympics related stuff until 3:30 am this morning, so when I read that, I was hoping some kind of dream had come true :).

Alas, while I have actually embarked on a second edition, I haven't written much yet. I wouldn'd expect it to be on the shelves until mid next year.
