Compression for CPU playback in live event

So after much thought, we have decided to use 2 PCs for the live playback of a single video in a live event. I would love to use QT animation @ 100%, but I'm afraid it will just get too close to maximum processing power, even on Quad cores. So I'm left with H.264, or windows media. This was captured and edited in 10 bit 4:2:2 and I would like to retain all that information for the big screen. It seems that both windows media and H.264 compression at their highest are creating banding, even when choosing 24 bit color?

Any help would be appreciated.

Vince

1080p24 Windows Media is quite possible on a reasonably recent machine, especially if the graphics card supports DXVA for accelerated video decode. Vista, Core2Duo, and a "NV80" based NVidia graphics card are going to be your best bet.

My year-old Toshiba laptop can do 1080p24 without breaking a sweat.

15 Mbps CBR is a good starting point.

What are you using to do your transcodes?

What settings have you tried for H.264 and WMV?

What's your projector's resolution?
